About Club Seasons
The club has adopted a unique season structure designed to accommodate our academic calendar in ICCT Colleges, taking into account the exams, campus-wide events, and national holidays on our planned schedule. This system also provides a consistent structure for our community, enabling future club officers to create repeatable events and programs across different academic years.
By aligning our activities with academic calendars, we ensure that our members can fully engage in both their studies and their chess passions.

[E2 – President] @Matthew: Although some of our scheduled plan for Season 1 didn’t go as expected (considering that we’re just starting out as a club), the Executive Commitee (E8) is slowly shifting towards this seasonal structure to catch-up on the events & programs we’ve missed in the past.
Why Not Use Semesters Instead of Club Seasons?
The decision to avoid using the term “semester” for all levels is due to the significant differences in academic calendars between senior high school and college. While senior high school typically follows a semester system, college students often have more flexible schedules with terms like prelims, midterms, and finals marking key periods.
By using more generic terms like “pre-season,” “mid-season,” and “end-season,” the club can create a more inclusive system that accommodates the diverse academic backgrounds of its members without causing confusion.
Purpose of Club Seasons
- Rating Progress: Members can track their improvement in the club ladder throughout the year.
- Reward System: The club can implement reward systems tied to specific seasons or achievements.
- Consistency: The repeatable nature of the system allows the club to establish consistent events and programs year after year.
- Adaptability: The club can develop targeted programs and events for each split, taking into account the specific academic demands and interests of members during that period.
- Predictability: The club can collect data on member performance and participation during each season split to inform future decisions and improve our club initiatives.
